Calum McFarlane has praised new Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior as a role model for young English coaches.

Rosenior was named Chelsea’s head coach on a six-year contract this week, moving from the French team Strasbourg.

The 41-year-old started his coaching career with Brighton’s under-23 team, followed by positions at Derby County, Hull City, and Strasbourg.

Last season, Rosenior guided Strasbourg to European qualification and has gained recognition from BlueCo, the owners of both Chelsea and the Ligue 1 club.

McFarlane, who recently managed Chelsea in an interim capacity against Manchester City, believes Rosenior’s journey to Stamford Bridge should motivate academy coaches across the country.

“I’m sure all young English coaches with an academy background, regardless of their loyalties, will be supporting Liam in some way,” McFarlane said at his press conference on Tuesday.

“It is really inspirational for young academy coaches to see someone land a job of this stature. We all hope he does really well.”
