The Ivory Coast international, Elye Wahi, is currently under investigation in connection with a potentially suspicious incident during a league match. Reports indicate that Wahi is suspected of deliberately receiving a yellow card on May 17 during the match between Nice and Metz.
According to information from The Athletic, bets amounting to several thousand euros were placed globally regarding this particular incident. The investigation into the matter intensified after Wahi was arrested on May 29, following the relegation play-off match in France’s Ligue 1 between Nice and Saint-Etienne.
Though Wahi has not been formally charged, the Ligue de Football Professionnel has initiated an investigation due to several reports concerning suspicious betting patterns surrounding the match. Wahi is currently representing the Ivory Coast in the World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
