FIFA has officially announced the format for the opening of the 2026 World Cup, which will feature three separate opening ceremonies for the first time in the tournament’s history. The events will take place in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, highlighting the collaborative spirit of this North American tournament.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for June 11 in Mexico City, at the renowned Estadio Azteca, making it the first stadium to host games in three different World Cups. Following this event, Mexico will face South Africa in the tournament’s inaugural match.

On June 12, the focus will shift to Toronto, where Canada’s national team will play its first-ever home match at a World Cup against Bosnia and Herzegovina. The United States will then host Paraguay in Los Angeles.

FIFA has stated that each host nation will highlight its own culture and traditions during the ceremonies to ensure a unique start to the tournament. Additionally, the 2026 World Cup will be notable for being the first to feature 48 teams.
