FIFA has instructed Egypt to remove the stars from their national team jersey ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The organization clarified that stars displayed on national team shirts during the tournament are exclusively for World Cup winners, rather than for continental achievements.
In light of this directive, Egypt has been asked to modify their kit prior to their opening World Cup match against Belgium. This change comes as part of FIFA’s broader compliance with tournament regulations.
In addition to the alteration of the star design, FIFA has also requested the gold color used for players’ names and squad numbers be replaced with a standard format, aligning with official guidelines.
The stars on Egypt’s jersey historically symbolize their record seven Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles, reflecting the nation’s significant success in continental football.
