The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, has addressed recent criticisms regarding Morocco’s position within the Confederation of African Football (CAF). He emphasized the accomplishments of Morocco’s national teams to counter claims of favoritism or undue influence in CAF.
Lekjaa asserted that if Morocco were indeed enjoying such privileges within CAF, the nation’s performance in continental competitions would reflect greater success. He noted that Morocco’s significant achievements have predominantly occurred in FIFA- sanctioned events rather than those organized by CAF.
“If Morocco really had the influence that some attribute to it within CAF, our continental record would be very different. We wouldn’t just have one Africa Cup of Nations won in 1976 and another currently underway,” Lekjaa stated.
He further highlighted that Morocco’s notable accomplishments, including reaching the World Cup semi-finals, success at the U20 World Cup, and victories in the Arab Cup, have all been secured in FIFA competitions. This raises questions about the alleged privileges granted to Morocco by CAF.
