French club Lyon is facing the possibility of severe sanctions from UEFA for the upcoming season. Reports from The Telegraph indicate that UEFA believes Lyon has not complied with the financial fair play agreement established last summer.
This breach of financial obligations jeopardizes the club’s participation in international tournaments, irrespective of their current sporting performance. Should disqualification be enforced, the vacant spot in European competitions will be allocated to another French team.
Marseille and Rennes are the leading candidates to take Lyon’s place and would have the opportunity to represent France on the continental stage instead of “Les Gones.”
