Several names have already been linked with the role, including Grégory Lorenzi, Mathieu Bodmer and Julien Fournier, while Cristiano Giuntoli is also said to be interested in the project.
George Syrianos was another serious option for Marseille. The Nottingham Forest sporting director impressed with his modern, data-driven profile and strong work in recruitment and finances.
However, Syrianos reportedly turned OM down after several meetings, mainly because of doubts over the club’s financial situation and uncertainty about how much freedom he would actually have.
That means Marseille must now look elsewhere again, even as the club continues to work hard behind the scenes to find the right long-term sporting director for the next phase of the project.
