Eddie Howe is determined to win the ‘magical’ FA Cup with Newcastle this season.

Newcastle will face Bournemouth in the third round of the FA Cup tomorrow. Last season, the team ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy by winning the League Cup at Wembley. This season, Howe’s team has reached the semi-finals of the League Cup again but has not performed well in the FA Cup in recent years.

Newcastle has been knocked out in the third round three times in the last five seasons, and last year’s run ended in the fifth round. Howe aims to make a deeper run in the FA Cup this time.

“For various reasons, we haven’t matched our success in the Carabao Cup in the FA Cup, and that’s frustrating. Last year, we had a chance, and losing to Brighton was tough because we had worked hard,” he said.

“The FA Cup is a great competition. The early rounds are challenging because there are other matches happening. We need to focus on this one and aim to advance in every competition we are part of.”

“When I played, the third round of the FA Cup was a standout moment. It came early in January and was a chance to play against a Premier League team, marking a significant moment in my career.”

“Now, managing at this level, there are many games, and it doesn’t feel as unique. Still, I believe the FA Cup is a magical competition. That feeling is still with me.”

“I remember the FA Cups of the eighties and how significant they were. They were some of the most important games of the season. I want us to experience the latter stages of this competition.”
