Italy have sent Riccardo Calafiori back to Arsenal following the defender’s injury.
Calafiori played the full game as Italy lost 2-1 to Germany in the first leg of their UEFA Nations League quarter-final on Friday morning. He suffered a knee injury late in the game.
“Riccardo Calafiori, who was injured against Germany, will not be able to play in the return leg on Sunday (Monday Midnight IST) and will return to his club,” the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) said in a statement on Friday (22 March).
The FIGC have announced that Calafiori has suffered a grade one to two collateral ligament injury. The 22-year-old defender is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks.
That means Arsenal could be without Calafiori for their Premier League clashes with Fulham and Everton.
The former Bologna man could also miss Arsenal’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid.
