According to reports, Lionel Messi and Inter Miami aren’t among the top sellers teams for the upcoming 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup is closer, but the tournament, which was revamped to a 32-team competition, seems to be falling short on expectations around ticket sales. It turns out that Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami, whose participation in the tournament was controversial, isn’t among teams who have sold the most tickets so far.

According to journalist Gastón Edul, the five games that have sold the most tickets so far, without numbers, include Real Madrid’s matches against Al Hilal and FC Salzburg. Other high-demand games feature FC Bayern München vs. Boca Juniors, Boca Juniors vs. SL Benfica, and Flamengo vs. Chelsea.

On the other hand, Miami, set to represent the host nation in Group A, will open the tournament on June 13, 2025, against Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly at Hard Rock Stadium in South Florida. The team qualified after clinching the Supporters’ Shield, but it was a controversial decision, as many expected that the spot should go to the winner of the MLS Cup.

The 2025 edition of the FIFA Club World Cup marks the debut of a significantly expanded format. Moving from seven participants to 32 clubs, the tournament will resemble the structure of a traditional World Cup, featuring a group stage followed by knockout rounds.

However, despite the tournament’s scale and high-profile participants, including stars like Messiearly ticket sales have not matched expectations across the board. More than two months before the opener between Miamiand Al Ahly, many seats remain unsold, according to reports from SBNation.

FIFA’s plan to sell more tickets

FIFA launched a ticket promotion to help sales. Called “ticket packs,” the offer gives fans who buy tickets to this year’s Club World Cup a chance to get early access to buy tickets for next summer’s FIFA World Cup. There are two types of packs: a regular one and a “super” pack.

With the regular pack, fans had to buy tickets to at least two Club World Cup games, with the option to add a third. Each ticket bought gave them a chance at early access for World Cup tickets.

The “super” pack allowed fans to buy tickets to up to 20 matches, but they had to include either the opening game or a ticket to one of the later games, like a semifinal or the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

What are ticket prices?

Ticket prices have remained consistent with the original release last December. On Ticketmaster and through FIFA’s bundled ticket packs, “Category 1” seats, located in lower levels, are priced between $100 and over $200 before taxes and fees for the group stage, with the final costing $2,600.

“Category 2” seats, typically in upper deck sideline sections, range from approximately $60 to $140 before taxes and fees. Some discounted tickets have been made available for fans of participating clubs, but prices are still notably higher than what most European clubs typically charge for regular matches.

Messi and Miami’s 2025 season

The FIFA Club World Cup is only one of the tournaments, Messi and Inter Miami are after this season. In the MLS, they currently sit second in the Eeastern Conference, behind Columbus. Meanwhile, the team reached the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup, after defeating LAFC in their second leg tie.
