Arne Slot is reportedly targeting experienced defender Nico Schlotterbeck as Liverpool prepares for the potential departure of Virgil van Dijk.
The English club is currently assessing its options to replace Van Dijk, with the Mirror reporting that they still have a chance to sign the 26-year-old German defender from Borussia Dortmund. Despite Schlotterbeck recently signing a long-term contract with Dortmund, the club is open to transferring him, although his price has risen from €30 million to €55 million.
Van Dijk’s possible exit places Liverpool in a challenging position, prompting the Reds to explore the transfer market for a suitable replacement. In Slot’s view, Schlotterbeck represents an ideal solution.
So far this season, Schlotterbeck has made 37 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. His current market value is also noted to be €55 million, according to Transfermarkt.
