Insider Nicolò Schira reported on social media platform X that the 40-year-old midfielder, currently with AC Milan and the Croatian national team, is expected to retire following the tournament. It is also anticipated that he will not renew his contract with Milan, indicating that this season will be his last in top-flight football.
Modrić began his professional career in 2003 with Dinamo Zagreb and has since represented several clubs, including Zrinjski Mostar, Inter Zaprešić, Tottenham, Real Madrid, and AC Milan. Over his club career, he has made 932 appearances, scoring 99 goals and providing 143 assists. On the international front, Modrić has played 196 matches for Croatia, netting 28 goals.
