England’s top football clubs are entering a fierce transfer battle to acquire one of Europe’s standout holding midfielders. Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly making significant moves to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba this summer, according to The Independent.
Tottenham, having recently secured their Premier League status, is actively pursuing the 22-year-old Cameroonian’s transfer. The push comes under the guidance of new manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is a known admirer of Baleba’s abilities from their time together at Brighton.
Securing Baleba’s services is expected to be a complicated and costly endeavor. Brighton management is reportedly holding out for a transfer fee exceeding £100 million, as the midfielder is under a long-term contract and the club is unwilling to part with him for less than a record compensation.
Baleba has made 35 appearances for Brighton this season, although he has yet to register goals or assists. His market valuation stands at €55 million, according to Transfermarkt. In related news, Manchester United has opened discussions for a new contract with midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
