Barcelona‘s pursuit of Julian Alvarez has suffered another setback after journalist Ruben Uria reported that Atletico Madrid has no intention of negotiating the striker’s departure this summer.
According to the report, Alvarez’s release clause stands at €490 million, significantly higher than the figures that have circulated in recent weeks.
Uria claims there are no special conditions attached to the clause and no discounted figure available to Spanish clubs, meaning Atletico’s position remains unchanged regardless of the interested party.
The report also points to Real Madrid‘s widely discussed €150 million offer as evidence that the release clause is not in the €120-150 million range that has been reported elsewhere.
Uria argues that if the clause had been set at €120 million, there would have been no need for Real Madrid to submit a higher proposal.
The journalist further claims that relations between Atletico Madrid president Miguel Angel Gil Marin and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez are effectively non-existent, making any potential negotiations between the clubs extremely difficult.
Atletico immediately rejected discussions once Real Madrid made contact regarding Alvarez, he enjoyed an outstanding 2025-26 campaign, scoring 20 goals and providing 10 assists across all competitions.
