Speaking to The Daily Mail, former Chelsea winger Joe Cole argues that the Blues should not sell Marc Cucurella and Enzo Fernandez this summer.
“If I’m Xabi Alonso, I want to keep both of them. I’d rather sell four or five other players to get that money in,” said Cole.
“But that’s if you’re using a model where you’re trying to win trophies. You build around players, like what Mikel Arteta has done at Arsenal, like what Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool, like what Pep Guardiola did at Manchester City. Do they have to sell them or not?”
Cucurella is already as good as gone: he is expected to leave for Real Madrid in a deal worth above £50 million.
Fernandez stays put for a while but is reportedly willing to join Cucurella at Santiago Bernabeu. Chelsea, however, are going to insist on the transfer fee of at least £120m.
