Lamine Yamal has made it clear that Barcelona are determined to avoid another painful exit as they prepare for a decisive UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico Madrid.
Speaking ahead of the clash, the teenage forward admitted that the dressing room is fully aware of the stakes following their recent cup disappointment but insisted the motivation goes beyond just revenge.
“Yes, we want to avoid what happened in the cup from happening again, but not just for that reason, because for years, Barcelona should have been in the Champions League,” Yamal said.
“We have a huge desire to qualify for the next round; we are Barcelona and we want to qualify. We believe we can do it, and we’ll give everything we’ve got to make it happen.”
After losing the first leg 0-2 at home, Barcelona faces a daunting task away against Diego Simeone’s side. However, Yamal dismissed any talk of miracles, instead calling for composure and identity.
“I think we should play the way we know how, I think with intensity, but without losing our playing style. I think that’s the key, and not to think that the comeback is a miracle.”
