2026 ലോകകപ്പ് ഗ്രൂപ്പ് ഘട്ടത്തിലെ അവസാന മത്സരത്തിൽ ഇക്വഡോറിനോട് 1-2 എന്ന സ്കോറിന് ജർമ്മനി പരാജയപ്പെട്ടപ്പോൾ വഴങ്ങിയ രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഗോളിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ഗോൾകീപ്പർ മാനുവൽ നോയർ തന്റെ നിലപാട് വ്യക്തമാക്കി.

“ഞാൻ പന്ത് പിടിച്ചെടുക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അതൊരു സാധാരണ ഫുട്ബോൾ സാഹചര്യമായിരുന്നു,” നോയർ പറഞ്ഞു.
“ഇതുവരെ ഫുട്ബോൾ കളിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഏതൊരു ഗോൾകീപ്പർക്കും ഞാൻ ആ പന്ത് കൈക്കലാക്കാൻ സ്വീകരിച്ച പൊസിഷൻ എന്താണെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാകും. നിർഭാഗ്യവശാൽ അത് ഗോളിന് വഴിയൊരുക്കി. പക്ഷേ അതൊരു പിഴവായിരുന്നില്ല,” അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.
തന്റെ നിലപാടിൽ ഉറച്ചുനിന്നുകൊണ്ട് നോയർ ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: “മറ്റെന്ത് നിലപാടാണ് ഞാൻ സ്വീകരിക്കേണ്ടിയിരുന്നത്? പന്ത് നേരെ എന്റെ അടുത്തേക്ക് വരുമ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഡൈവ് ചെയ്യാതിരിക്കണോ? പന്തിനെതിരെ മുന്നോട്ട് നീങ്ങി അത് പിടിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുക എന്നത് എന്റെ ഉത്തരവാദിത്തമാണ്. ആരോ ഒരാൾ കാൽ വെച്ച് പന്ത് എന്റെ അരികിലൂടെ കടത്തിവിട്ടാൽ അത് അങ്ങനെ സംഭവിക്കും. അല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു മാർഗ്ഗവും അവിടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.”
Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has shared his perspective on the second goal conceded during his side’s 1-2 defeat to Ecuador in the final round of the 2026 World Cup group stage.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when, following a corner kick and a teammate’s flick-on, Gonzalo Plata managed to extend his leg just ahead of Neuer, reaching the ball first to send it into the back of the net.
“I was trying to catch the ball. It was a completely standard situation,” Neuer said.
“Any goalkeeper who has ever played the game understands that this was exactly the position I had to take to try and claim the ball. Of course, it turned out unfortunately, but it wasn’t my mistake.”
“What other position was I supposed to take? Am I supposed to dive even when the ball is flying straight at me? I have to move toward the ball and try to catch it. If someone sticks a foot out and the ball flies past me, then it flies past me. But I had to take that exact position. There was simply no other option,” Neuer concluded
