Virgil van Dijk was able to score the Netherlands’ first goal in their 2-2 draw against Japan in their group stage opener at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Dutchman wasn’t totally satisfied with the result, but he did take some time to talk about the cooling breaks introduced in this tournament.
Speaking about the breaks, he stated: “I think hydration breaks are really interesting. I have been watching almost all the games up until today. Every time it goes into a commercial, I don’t really like it.
“For the neutral watchers on TV, it’s not great. If it’s really hot, obviously, it’s going to be good to do, but I think you have to look at it in every game separately.”
