Egypt started its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a thrilling 2-1 win over Zimbabwe on Monday.

Despite controlling most aspects of the game, Egypt found itself trailing in the first half after Zimbabwe’s Prince Dube scored from a messy situation in the penalty area.

The match turned around thanks to Egypt’s Premier League players. Omar Marmoush from Manchester City equalized with a powerful shot into the Zimbabwe goal. Mo Salah from Liverpool then scored a late winner, sealing the victory for Egypt and ensuring they took all three points.

A key moment for Egypt and Salah

Mo Salah has an impressive list of achievements, including two Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, and a Club World Cup. He has been named the best African player twice and holds multiple Golden Boots, Player of the Month awards, and other honors.
