The Ivorian national football team will face challenges as its supporters from Abidjan will be unable to travel to the United States for the upcoming World Cup, co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico. Many fans have been unable to secure the necessary visas to attend the tournament, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
According to Julien Kouadio Adonis, president of the Ivorian National Supporters’ Committee, fans have made the difficult decision to cancel their travel plans. In an interview with a French news agency, he said, “The supporters have cancelled the trip because the US government does not want to see supporters from certain countries, including Ivory Coast, on its soil.”
Adonis expressed the disappointment of the supporters, emphasizing that they are unable to fulfill their duty to support their team. “This situation is very painful for us as it prevents us from fulfilling our fundamental duty, which is to support our team. We could have showcased our culture and our expertise as supporters in the stands,” he added.
Despite the setback for many fans, approximately ten officials from the national supporters’ committee have managed to obtain visas and travel to the United States. Additionally, the Ivorian team will have the support of its diaspora residing in America during the tournament.
