Norwegian officials are expressing their dissatisfaction with FIFA’s recent decisions, surrounding political affiliations and their implications for the sport. The Norwegian Football Federation has formally lodged a complaint against FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino.
The core issue appears to be the presentation of the “FIFA Peace Award” to U.S. President Donald Trump during the 2025 World Cup draw. Norwegian authorities argue that this action breaches FIFA’s commitment to political neutrality, which they claim contradicts FIFA’s established policies.
This is not the first time FIFA has faced backlash related to its choices. The decision to host the 2026 World Cup in the United States has already drawn criticism, posing multiple challenges for fans and organizers alike.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This event will mark a historic first, as it will be co-hosted by three nations and feature an expanded lineup of 48 national teams.
