The Orlando Pirates are seeking to enhance their goalkeeping lineup as they look to reduce dependency on Sipho Chaine. Reports suggest that Renaldo Leaner, currently with Sekhukhune United, is on the radar of the Sea Robbers for the upcoming season.
Leaner has made a strong impression at Sekhukhune United, earning recognition from Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos, who called him up to the national squad. Despite this acknowledgment, Leaner struggled to capitalize on the opportunity, conceding goals during Bafana Bafana’s 2-0 defeat to Panama in March.
Additionally, Leaner has lost his starting position at Sekhukhune, with Toaster Ntsabatha emerging as the preferred goalkeeper. Nevertheless, this development has not deterred the Pirates from pursuing him.
Within their goalkeeping department, the Pirates currently have Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi. Leaner is viewed as a potential replacement for Buthelezi, who has faced challenges in meeting the club’s expectations.
