The manager of the Lions of Teranga has confirmed that recent issues within the Senegal national team have been resolved, allowing the squad to concentrate on their upcoming match. The team, currently participating in the World Cup hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, faced scrutiny over several controversies, including unpaid player bonuses, the absence of a contract for head coach Pape Thiaw, and inadequate conditions in the U.S. leading up to the tournament.
At a press conference on Sunday, June 21, Pape Thiaw addressed these concerns, acknowledging the challenges but emphasizing that the team has moved past them. “My contract? It’s sorted. It took too long. But I must make it clear that it was never a question of money, but rather a matter of principle and respect. It’s true there were some teething problems. But we’re all here – the coaching staff, the players and the Football Association,” he stated. Thiaw underscored the team’s commitment to focusing on their performance in upcoming matches.
Senegal is set to face Norway in their second group stage match on Monday, June 22, aiming to enhance their chances in the tournament as they move forward.
