Hugo Broos has faced considerable scrutiny following South Africa’s early performance in the World Cup, particularly after a 1-0 defeat to Mexico. However, his tactical adjustments have led to a shift in sentiment, culminating in a crucial 1-0 victory over South Korea that has secured a spot in the round of 32.
Despite initial disappointment marked by the loss to Mexico and a subsequent draw with Czechia, Broos’s strategic evolution has garnered support. Former national team coach Pitso Mosimane praised Broos for his resilience and adaptability. “It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish,” Mosimane noted during the show “Changing The Game with Pitso Mosimane.”
Mosimane acknowledged the criticism that followed Bafana Bafana’s shaky start but highlighted that the team’s response has been commendable. He remarked on the difficulty of the match against Czechia, emphasizing the unexpected draw as a testament to the team’s growth. “We managed to get something. We got a draw,” he said.
Reflecting on the team’s journey, Mosimane expressed approval of Broos’s tactical improvements. “He showed that he’s human and he understands that we didn’t play well in the first match. He responded professionally by fixing it,” he concluded.
