The Portugal national football team will don commemorative bracelets at the 2026 World Cup to honor the late Diogo Jota. This heartfelt tribute was initiated by Prime Minister Luís Montenegro, who presented the bracelets to the players ahead of the tournament’s start.

Midfielder Vitinha recounted the significance of this gesture. He explained that the Prime Minister ensured the bracelets complied with FIFA regulations so they could be worn during matches. The design includes the names of all players, with a special mention of Jota.

When we met with the Prime Minister, he gave us these bracelets and ensured that they could be worn even during games. They feature the names of all the players, with a special mention of Diogo Jota. He gave us the choice to decide for ourselves if and how we wanted to wear them. We accepted this gift with great warmth and decided that we would all wear them,” the PSG midfielder told A Bola.

It is important to note that Diogo Jota and his brother, André Silva, tragically lost their lives in July last year when their vehicle veered off the road and caught fire in northwest Spain.
