Safa technical chairman Jack Maluleke has confirmed that the search for a replacement for Hugo Broos as coach of Bafana Bafana is currently underway. Reports indicate that Broos, who is under contract until the conclusion of the World Cup, may not retain his position beyond the tournament.

The South African Football Association (Safa) announced that not only is the search for Broos’ successor ongoing, but the coach himself will also be part of the application process, despite holding the current role. His contract is set to expire following the World Cup, which will take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Bafana Bafana is positioned in Group A, alongside Mexico, South Korea, and the Czech Republic. Maluleke clarified the situation during a recent NEC meeting, stating that while there are rumors regarding negotiations with Broos, the technical committee has not initiated discussions. “We opened the process. If Hugo Broos has interest to continue, I think he will also make a presentation to say I’m available,” he said.

Maluleke emphasized the importance of adhering to the established timeline, noting that the team’s qualifiers will follow the World Cup. He reassured that Safa remains open to all candidates, including Broos, inviting any interested parties to present their cases to the committee.
