The Copa del Rey final recently became embroiled in a significant scandal before it even started. A major police operation led to the arrest of dozens of fans.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, law enforcement began checking fans as they arrived in the city. Interventions occurred on the A-4 motorway near La Carlota and other routes commonly used by supporters.
During these inspections, police uncovered a large stash of weapons, including knives, batons, chains, over a hundred steel rods, and numerous metal pipes. They also found brass knuckles, pepper spray, signal flares, helmets, and motorcycle gloves.
In total, about 160 people were identified and detained. Most of these individuals are reportedly connected to the supporter groups of both clubs. Police underscored that the clashes they prevented could have had serious repercussions.
