Antoine Semenyo has shared insights about his upcoming return to Bournemouth, where he will face his former teammates with Manchester City in a vital Premier League matchup. The Ghanaian forward stated that his old colleagues have humorously threatened to “kick” him when he arrives at the Vitality Stadium for the match.
Pep Guardiola’s team will visit AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night as they strive to maintain their chase for another domestic treble. Semenyo, who transferred from Bournemouth to Manchester City in January, has already celebrated success at the Etihad Stadium, claiming two trophies since the move.
In his role at City, Semenyo was instrumental in their FA Cup victory over Chelsea, netting the decisive goal in the final. In contrast, Bournemouth has seen an unbeaten streak following his departure, positioning themselves as contenders for a European qualification spot.
“I was the problem,” joked Semenyo regarding his past with Bournemouth. “I am happy they are doing so well and hopefully they get into Europe too. It’s going to be tough. They’ve got something to fight for so they’re going to make it tough for us.
“It won’t be weird going back. It’ll be good to see everyone again. I still speak to them every day, to be honest, they’ve been giving me a lot of cr*p, just like they’re going to kick me and this and that but it’ll be good to see them all. And obviously, it’s going to be a tough game. So I’m looking forward to the challenge and hopefully we win.”
