The prosecution is pushing for longer sentences than the ones initially given.

The appeal hearing for 18 Senegalese fans detained in Morocco since the incidents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final commenced on Monday, April 13. While appearing before the judge in Rabat, they asserted that they did not participate in the events during the final, as reported by RMC Sport. The supporters clarified that they had entered the pitch to escape a stampede, not to incite violence.

The defense believes there may have been an error and has requested a review of the videos. However, the prosecution has rejected this request and is advocating for stricter sentences. As a result, the 18 supporters, who were initially sentenced to between three months and one year in prison, now face the possibility of up to two years’ imprisonment on appeal.
