England national team head coach Thomas Tuchel has addressed the decision to exclude several key players from the final squad for the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel described the choice as “very tough” yet necessary.
During his remarks, Tuchel explained that the selection process required careful consideration of balance within the team. He stated,
“I had to make some tough phone calls. In some cases, it was simply a matter of balance, making sure we don’t take FIVE number tens in the squad. Even though it hurt, I believe it was the right decision for England.” Tuchel said.
The omission of players such as Harry Maguire, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Phil Foden, and Cole Palmer has sparked outrage among fans of the Three Lions.
In the upcoming World Cup, England is set to compete in Group L alongside Croatia, Panama, and Ghana.
