Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed significant details regarding the transfer saga of Brazilian footballer Vinícius Júnior. Bartomeu, who presided over the club from 2014 to 2020, stated in an interview with The Athletic that the young talent had a “preliminary agreement” with Barcelona before opting to sign with their rivals, Real Madrid.

Bartomeu disclosed that Barcelona was engaged in active discussions with Vinícius’s family and agents. At one stage, both parties had reached a foundational agreement on the transfer. Despite this progress, the player ultimately chose to join Real Madrid, likely influenced by a more lucrative financial offer made by the club.

This season, Vinícius Júnior has made a significant impact at Real Madrid, playing in 50 matches across all competitions. He has scored 21 goals and provided 14 assists, solidifying his role as a key player for the team.
