The end of a footballing era is approaching as Borussia Dortmund centre-back Niklas Süle has confirmed his retirement plans. The 30-year-old defender, who has not featured regularly this season, will hang up his boots at the conclusion of the current footballing calendar.
According to an official statement from Borussia Dortmund, Süle expressed his decision during the Spielmache podcast. “Niklas Süle will end his professional football career after the final matchday of the 2025/26 season,” the statement announced.
Süle began his journey in football within the youth systems of Eintracht and Darmstadt 98. In summer 2017, he signed a five-year contract with Bayern Munich before transferring to Borussia Dortmund five years later.
He made his debut for the Germany national team on August 31, 2016, during a friendly match against Finland.
