Chelsea Football Club has reportedly reached an agreement in principle to appoint Xabi Alonso as their new head coach. According to Fabrice Hawkins, the terms of a long-term contract have been settled, with a duration of at least two years anticipated.

The 43-year-old Spaniard is viewed as a key figure capable of stabilizing the current situation at the club and initiating a new era. The agreement will grant Alonso significant influence in squad building and an active role in the club’s transfer strategy for the upcoming summer window.

This development comes after the departure of Liam Rosenior in April, leading to Callum MacFarlane’s interim managerial appointment. Rosenior himself had taken over from Enzo Maresca, who left the club in early January.

It is anticipated that following the conclusion of the season and the FA Cup final, the necessary administrative procedures for Alonso’s appointment will move forward, with an official announcement expected soon.
