English Football League (EFL) clubs have reaffirmed their commitment to traditional refereeing practices, with no changes anticipated in the immediate future.
According to a report by The Athletic, a meeting held today concluded with EFL clubs rejecting proposed changes that would have included the adoption of video replays and a system for head coaches to challenge referee decisions.
The proposed system would have allowed head coaches to request a review of a decision they deemed unfair by displaying a special card to the fourth official, prompting the use of the FVS, or video replay system, to reassess key calls.
After careful consideration, the clubs opted against these innovations, citing concerns that they would disrupt the flow of matches and interfere with the traditional values held in high regard within English football.
