Phuti Mohafe, coach of Polokwane City, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the Man of the Match award given to Kaizer Chiefs’ Lebohang Maboe following a goalless draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Mohafe contends that Maboe was not deserving of the recognition, stating that his team’s defense successfully neutralized both him and the Chiefs’ midfield.
“We defended well on Saturday, we didn’t concede. In the middle, we neutralised Lebohang Maboe, and we neutralised Thabo Cele. I’m so confused about how Maboe got the Man of the Match. I don’t know how he got it because he was nowhere to be seen on the field,” Mohafe remarked during a press conference after the match.
He further added, “Whenever he got the ball, we were there. We won most of the balls from him. So how can you be a Man of the Match losing the balls? I think we played better, but Chiefs are still a better team. They are in a good form. They are playing well. They were scoring, but they didn’t score against us.”
Mohafe highlighted Polokwane City players Tlou Nkwe and Simon Ramabu as more deserving candidates for the award. He pointed out, “Let’s go back to who was marking Maboe. We had Tlou Nkwe on the left side. He deserves the Man of the Match. You have Simon Ramabu on the right side. He gave them problems. He deserves to be the Man of the Match. So why not give them the Man of the Match?”
