FIFA President Gianni Infantino is taking steps to act as a mediator in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine through football. According to reports from The Athletic, FIFA has proposed a match between the national teams of both regions, aiming to promote peace through sport.
Details suggest that the plan focuses on under-15 youth teams, with matches potentially held on American soil as part of a tournament initiated by Infantino himself. This initiative marks another attempt by FIFA’s leadership to bridge divides and encourage dialogue through the medium of football.
Infantino has previously sought to facilitate discussions between Israel and Palestine amid their complex military and political conflicts. However, as of now, both the Palestinian and Israeli football federations have yet to respond to FIFA’s proposal.
