Ghana will face a notable absence in its upcoming opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The national team, poised to compete soon, will be without midfielder Thomas Partey, a key figure in their lineup.

According to reports from The Athletic, Partey has been denied entry into Canada. He was called up to the national team despite facing rape and sexual assault allegations in the United Kingdom, leading to his visa refusal for travel to Canada.

Despite this setback, the 32-year-old midfielder has secured a visa for the United States and is currently participating in Ghana’s training camp at Bryant University in Rhode Island.

Additionally, controversy has already emerged at the World Cup, particularly during the Mexico vs South Africa match. Referee Wilton Sampaio extended the hydration break beyond the scheduled time due to a commercial airing by broadcaster FOX.

Just before the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City, an unpleasant incident occurred near the iconic Azteca Stadium.
