The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently in progress, being jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. However, the tournament is facing a significant threat from an Iranian hacker group known as Handala.
According to reports from L’Équipe, the hackers claim to have breached FBI drones and have issued direct threats against the competition. In response, the U.S. State Department is offering a reward of up to $10 million for information that could help identify members of this group.
In addition to these security concerns, the tournament has already seen controversy. Referee Wilton Sampaio faced criticism for extending a hydration break during the Mexico vs South Africa match, which was allegedly influenced by broadcaster FOX airing a commercial break.
Moreover, just before the tournament’s opening match in Mexico City, an unpleasant incident occurred near the iconic Azteca Stadium.
