Clarifying the situation.

It all comes down to history.

Details: Haiti’s national team recently revealed the official kit they will wear during the upcoming World Cup, featuring a design that caught the attention of many fans—a person holding the Polish flag. Initially, some believed this was simply a designer’s mistake involving a flag mix-up. However, the history behind the design is much deeper.

The connection between Haiti and Poland dates back to 1802, when Napoleon dispatched thousands of Polish legionnaires to Haiti in an attempt to quell the Haitian slave uprising. Contrary to their orders, the Polish soldiers chose to side with the Haitians in their fight for freedom, refusing to engage against them and instead joining forces against the French army.

By incorporating the Polish flag into their kit, Haiti’s national team is paying homage to the historical support extended by Poland during a critical time in their struggle for independence.
