जर्मन फुटबॉल टीम के कोच जूलियन नागेल्समैन ने गोलकीपिंग के अपने एक फैसले के बाद ओलिवर बॉमन पर पड़े भावनात्मक असर का खुलासा किया है। नागेल्समैन ने माना कि वर्ल्ड कप से पहले जब बॉमन को टीम की प्राथमिकता में बदलाव के बारे में बताया गया, तो वे काफी निराश हुए थे।
नागेल्समैन ने स्पष्ट किया कि कोचिंग स्टाफ ने मार्च में ही बॉमन को मैनुअल न्युएर के साथ हुई बातचीत की जानकारी दे दी थी। इस फैसले का परिणाम यह रहा कि न्युएर टूर्नामेंट के लिए टीम की पहली पसंद के रूप में वापस आ गए।
नागेल्समैन ने कहा, “हमने मार्च में ही ओली को बता दिया था कि हमारी बात मनु से हो चुकी है। अंततः, यह फैसला ओली के लिए एक बड़ा झटका था। ऐसी खबरें कभी भी सुखद नहीं होतीं।”

नागेल्समैन ने यह भी माना कि इस पूरी स्थिति को संभालने के तरीके से उनके और बॉमन के रिश्तों पर भी थोड़ा असर पड़ा है। उन्होंने बताया, “मनु ने इतने खिताब जीते हैं, उनका अपना एक औरा है और वे एक बड़ा नाम हैं। स्वाभाविक है कि ओली ने इसे सहजता से नहीं लिया। जब आप ऐसी खबरें देते हैं, तो रिश्तों पर थोड़ा असर तो पड़ता ही है।”
गौरतलब है कि जर्मनी के अनुभवी गोलकीपरों के पीछे लंबे समय तक इंतजार करने वाले बॉमन 2025-26 के चक्र के दौरान एक प्रमुख विकल्प बनकर उभरे हैं। उन्होंने अब तक राष्ट्रीय टीम के लिए 11 मैच खेले हैं और 6 बार क्लीन शीट हासिल की है। क्लब स्तर पर हॉफेनहाइम के साथ 34 वर्षीय बॉमन का प्रदर्शन लगातार अच्छा रहा है। उन्होंने 2025-26 सीजन में 36 मैच खेले हैं और बुंडेसलीगा में अपने करियर के 500 मैचों का आंकड़ा पार कर लिया है।
Julian Nagelsmann has revealed the emotional impact of his goalkeeping decision on Oliver Baumann, admitting the Germany goalkeeper was left disappointed after being informed of the hierarchy change ahead of the World Cup.
Nagelsmann explained that the coaching staff informed Baumann in March about discussions with Manuel Neuer, a decision that ultimately resulted in Neuer returning as the first-choice for the tournament.
“We told Oli in March that we had spoken with Manu. In the end, the decision was a blow for Oli. It’s never good news,” Nagelsmann said.
He acknowledged that while Neuer’s presence remains a major asset for the squad, the decision naturally affected Baumann’s role and confidence.
“When Manu plays, he helps the team. But there have also been times when he hasn’t played. That can happen to us too. That’s why I expressed my confidence in Oli,” he added.
Nagelsmann also admitted that the handling of the situation affected their relationship to some extent.
“Manu has won so many titles, he has an aura, a huge name. Of course, Oli wasn’t like, ‘Ah, okay, coach, no problem the relationship suffered a bit, of course, when you deliver news like that,” he said.
Baumann, who had long waited behind Germany’s established goalkeepers before emerging as a key option during the 2025–26 cycle, has since accumulated 11 senior caps and 6 clean sheets for the national team.
At club level with Hoffenheim, the 34-year-old has remained a consistent presence, making 36 appearances during the 2025–26 season and surpassing 500 Bundesliga career appearances.
