Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has expressed concern over striker Evidence Makgopa’s lack of playing time at Orlando Pirates, particularly as the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico approaches in June. Broos indicated that Makgopa’s inactivity at the club level is causing him considerable anxiety as he prepares for the global tournament.
Makgopa has been a reliable player for the national team, but his current situation raises questions about his inclusion in the final squad. During an appearance on the 947 MSW sports show, Broos highlighted his disappointment regarding the striker’s limited playing opportunities.
“And sometimes I’m surprised to see players who don’t play suddenly anymore,” said Broos.

Broos elaborated, “They’re on the bench or they’re not even on the bench, they’re on the stands. And I say what happens now?” He specifically referenced Makgopa, stating, “Makgopa don’t play anymore in Pirates. What is the reason? That makes my job difficult. Certainly when you go to the World Cup, when you take a player who didn’t play for months, you have a problem. For me, it’s a surprise not seeing him play.”
