Javier Aguirre, the head coach of the Mexican national football team, has dismissed any potential threats from South Africa, the Czech Republic, and South Korea ahead of the World Cup. He expressed confidence in his team’s ability to leverage the advantage of hosting the tournament.
Aguirre described World Cup Group A as a “piece of cake” for Mexico, emphasizing the importance of seizing the opportunity presented by home games. “When I saw the schedule and the home games, I said it’s a piece of cake—we can’t let it slip away,” he told the Mexican publication, Record.
Mexico will open their campaign against South Africa on June 11 in Mexico City, with expectations high for a dominant performance against the Bafana Bafana. In a separate interview with Oem, Aguirre reiterated the value of home ground advantage, citing England’s historical success. “That’s what I’m telling my players, playing at home is priceless. England were champions at home and never again; they disappeared,” he remarked.
