Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association are currently embroiled in a notable legal controversy.
Details: According to TMZ, a promotion company has filed a lawsuit against them in a Florida court, seeking compensation for millions in losses. The plaintiffs allege they paid $7 million to arrange two friendly matches for the Argentina national team—against Venezuela and Puerto Rico—based on the expectation that Messi would participate.
The contract stipulated that Messi needed to be on the field for at least 30 minutes in each game to meet sponsors’ expectations and justify their investment.
Unfortunately, the promoters were left disappointed. The lawsuit claims that Messi did not play in the Venezuela match, despite being fit. Instead, he was seen in the VIP area during the game and played for his club, Inter Miami, the following day.
The promoters consider this a clear breach of contract and believe Messi’s absence diminished the value of the event, leading to substantial financial losses.
Reminder: There are updates on whether Argentina defender Cristian Romero will be fit in time for the World Cup.
