ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ഫുട്ബോൾ ടീം പരിശീലകർ ഇനി രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ ഇടപെടേണ്ടതില്ലെന്ന് എഫ്.എ
ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ദേശീയ ഫുട്ബോൾ ടീമിനെ ഏകദേശം എട്ടു വർഷത്തോളം നയിച്ച ഗാരത് സൗത്ത്ഗേറ്റ്, തന്റെ കാലയളവിൽ രാഷ്ട്രീയ, സാമൂഹിക വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ കൃത്യമായ നിലപാടുകൾ സ്വീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന പരിശീലകനായിരുന്നു. ബ്രെക്സിറ്റ്, ബ്ലാക്ക് ലൈവ്സ് മാറ്റർ പ്രസ്ഥാനം, കാൽമുട്ടിൽ കുത്തിനിന്നുള്ള പ്രതിഷേധം തുടങ്ങിയ വിഷയങ്ങളിലെല്ലാം അദ്ദേഹം തുറന്നു സംസാരിച്ചിരുന്നു.

തന്റെ ഔദ്യോഗിക മേഖലയ്ക്ക് പുറത്തുള്ള വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ സംസാരിച്ചതിന് സൗത്ത്ഗേറ്റ് പലയിടത്തും വിമർശനങ്ങൾ നേരിടേണ്ടി വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചിലർ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ പരിഹസിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ‘വോക്ക്’ (woke) എന്ന് പോലും വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിലാണ് ഇംഗ്ലണ്ട് ഫുട്ബോൾ ടീം പരിശീലകർ ഇനി രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിൽ നിന്ന് വിട്ടുനിൽക്കണമെന്നും പൂർണ്ണമായും ഫുട്ബോളിൽ മാത്രം ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ചാൽ മതിയെന്നും എഫ്.എ തീരുമാനിച്ചത്. ഈ പുതിയ സമീപനത്തോട് പുതിയ പരിശീലകൻ തോമസ് ടുക്കൽ പൂർണ്ണമായും യോജിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
“സൗത്ത്ഗേറ്റ് തന്റെ പരിശീലക ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ തുടക്കത്തിൽ തന്നെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ വിഷയങ്ങളിൽ സംസാരിച്ചു തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. അതിൽ നിന്ന് പിന്നീട് പിന്മാറുക എന്നത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് പ്രയാസകരമായിരുന്നു,” ബുള്ളിംഗ്ഹാം വ്യക്തമാക്കി.
“സ്ഥിതിഗതികൾ വിലയിരുത്തിയ ശേഷം ഞങ്ങളുടെ തീരുമാനം ഇതാണ്: പരിശീലകർ ഫുട്ബോളിൽ മാത്രം ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുന്നതാണ് അവർക്കും ഞങ്ങൾക്കും നല്ലത്. പരിശീലകരും അത് തന്നെയാണ് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നത്. ആ നിലപാടിലാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോൾ നിൽക്കുന്നത്,” എന്നും അദ്ദേഹം കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്തു.
During his almost eight years in charge of the English national team, Gareth Southgate was one of the most outspoken managers regarding politics and social issues, such as Brexit, the Black Lives Matter movement, and taking the knee.
However, according to the FA chief executive Mark Bullingham, it began to weigh down on Southgate to be constantly asked about his views, especially ahead of the controversial 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Additionally, Southgate was criticised in some corners for speaking on things outside of his field of expertise, with some especially harsh people branding him as too ‘woke’.
So, the FA have now decided that England head coaches will stay out of politics and stick to football, an approach that Thomas Tuchel appears to be totally fine with.
“So, I think, with Gareth, he started quite early on in his managerial time talking about politics, and then it’s hard to then withdraw from that,” said Bullingham.
“I think when we reviewed the situation, our view was that it’s better for the coach, they prefer it, and we prefer it, really, if they focused purely on the football. And that’s where we are.”
