Manchester City is close to signing Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth before the weekend, despite some reports of interest from other Premier League teams.

City has reached an agreement to sign Semenyo for a fee just below his £65m release clause. Pep Guardiola’s team is likely to secure the Ghana international, even with interest from other clubs.

Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United have shown interest in Semenyo, and there were claims on Wednesday that Liverpool wanted to intervene in the deal.

Liverpool’s sporting director, Richard Hughes, was involved in bringing Semenyo to Bournemouth in the past.

However, there are no expected hurdles in City’s deal. Semenyo is undergoing a medical today and is set to sign a long-term contract.

At 25 years old, he has scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season, including a dramatic winner in Bournemouth’s recent 3-2 victory over Tottenham.

Semenyo played for Bournemouth even after agreeing to move to Manchester, which was appreciated by Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola.

“I am very happy for him. He deserves it. It was a fairy tale moment and one he will never forget. He’s an incredible player,” Iraola remarked.
