Tunisia has become the first African team eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 4-0 loss to Japan in their Group F match held at Estadio Monterrey Guadalupe in Mexico.
This defeat marks Tunisia’s second consecutive loss in the tournament, sealing their exit with one group match still to play. They are now the third team overall to be eliminated from the competition, joining Haiti and Turkey.
The North African side faced significant pressure after their disappointing opening-day defeat to Sweden, which ended in a 5-1 scoreline. This prompted a change in management, with Sabri Lamouchi stepping down and Hervé Renard taking over just prior to the match against Japan.
Despite the coaching transition, Tunisia was unable to recover from their earlier setback, resulting in another heavy defeat that prematurely ended their World Cup aspirations.
